Track Listings:
1. Twice — Little Dragon: A Swedish Band with a Half Japanese, “little dragon” for a lead singer, Yukimi Nagano, known for her “fuming tantrums” in the recording studio. One of my favorite current artists.
2. Cold War — The Morning Benders (Star Slinger Remix): Off their Japan Echo EP, released to raise money for the disastrous Earthquake that hit Japan last year.
3. Never Never — SBTRKT: A bass heavy, synth heavy cover of Little Dragon’s tune, this British MC’s self titled album could by my #1 from 2011.
4. Just Like Honey — The Submarines: Cover of “The Jesus and Mary Chain” Song, from the soundtrack of the most iconic American movie set in Japan–Lost in Translation. Just think about Bill Murray doing Karaoke.
5. Urusai Tori — Asobi Seksu: Another Japanese female lead singer of an current indie rock band. She can do it all, sing in Japanese and English, play melodic acoustic guitar or just swing her hair and rock out.
6. Alone in Kyoto — Air: Also on the Lost in Translation Soundtrack, and has a Japanese city in its name.
7. Quitter’s Raga — Gold Panda: British music producer making music with a self-proclaimed Japanese obsession, having spent 2 years studying abroad there.
